This morning, during the Monthly Bird Count, a flock of 26 Goosander flew over the Large Gravel Pit. In the Severn/Trent plantation a flock of Siskin, Redpoll and Goldfinch were feeding in the Alders. PS.

Redshank – 26th November
This morning, during the Bird Walk, a Raven flew over the site, several Siskins and a Redpoll were seen and an Egyptian Goose flew over from the Ecopark. At the end of the walk two Redshank flew in and looked like they went to the flashes across the river. PS
Pintail – 6th November
A female Pintail was on the Slurry Lagoon this morning, feeding with the Wigeon. A female Peregrine flew low over the site from the new pylon and several large flocks of Fieldfares flew over, some dropping into the Hawthorn bushes. Still a few Siskins going through, and some Common Darters about. PS.
Spotted Flycatcher – 21st September
This morning there was a passage of Meadow Pipits and Siskins and a Red Kite slowly circled over the site. PS.
In the afternoon a Spotted Flycatcher was seen on the overhead wires along the Lower Path. RJP.
Great White Egret – 17th September
This morning, just before the Bird Walk commenced, two Great White Egrets flew onto the Slurry Lagoon. Unfortunately they only stayed for a few minutes. During the walk some passage Siskins, Yellow Wagtails and a Meadow Pipit flew over. Also seen were several Migrant Hawkers and Red Admirals, and a single Small Copper. PS.
Bittern – 13th September
This morning a Bittern was seen, sunning itself in the Deep Pit reed-bed. There were still Swallows and House Martins passing through on passage and good numbers of Chiffchaffs were heard and seen. Two Siskins were in a tree on the NE corner of the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
Marsh Harrier – 4th August
This morning, during the Bird Walk, two ravens were on the pylons and also crossed and re-crossed the site several times. A Water Rail dashed across the gap in front of the Causeway benches, a female Marsh Harrier flew over the site but continued over the river, and a Hobby was over the Small Gravel Pit. Also the first few Siskins were heard passing over-head. PS.

Goosander – 25th October
This morning thirteen Bearded Reedlings were located in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and a female Goosander flew over the site. There were a few Redwings picking berries and small numbers of Lesser Redpolls and Siskins were flying through. PS.
On the Ecopark there were two Stonechats. MC.
Siskin – 8th March
This morning there were eight Siskins feeding in Alders along the Access Track, a Red Kite glided over the Large Gravel Pit and an Oystercatcher flew over the Deep Pit towards the river. A Chiffchaff was singing along the Ouse Dyke, another along the Lower Path and one along the Riverside Walk. PS/DM/RJP/IEP.
Merlin – 30th October
A Merlin flew SW through the Deep Pit and over the rail bridge field this afternoon. The 1st Winter Caspian Gull is still around, 15 Siskin and a Redpoll flew through too. Also an ‘Argentatus’ Herring Gull on the Deep Pit. MC.
