This morning a Bittern was seen, flying over the Large Gravel Pit. There was also a report of a Marsh Harrier over the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed at about mid-day. RJP.

Waxwing – 14th December
This morning, amongst the Fieldfares and Redwings, four Waxwings were seen at the southern end of the Causeway, before moving to hawthorns below the Pylon Path. NH.
Redshank – 26th November
This morning, during the Bird Walk, a Raven flew over the site, several Siskins and a Redpoll were seen and an Egyptian Goose flew over from the Ecopark. At the end of the walk two Redshank flew in and looked like they went to the flashes across the river. PS
Egyptian Goose – 23rd November
This morning 18 Common Snipe were circling over the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed before dropping in. A flock of 16 Lapwings flew over the Deep Pit and there were seven species of duck on the Slurry Lagoon, including Pochard, Shoveler, Teal and Wigeon. Later two pairs of Egyptian Geese stopped off on the Slurry Lagoon for a bathe. PS.
Goosander – 20th November
This morning three Goosander flew over the reserve. A Peregrine was on the new pylon and there were good numbers of Redwing and Blackbird about. PS.
Red Kite – 9th November
This morning the raptors included Kestrel, Sparrowhawk and a low Red Kite. There were a good number of Redwings in the Hawthorns, but most Fieldfares were seen flying over. PS.
Pintail – 6th November
A female Pintail was on the Slurry Lagoon this morning, feeding with the Wigeon. A female Peregrine flew low over the site from the new pylon and several large flocks of Fieldfares flew over, some dropping into the Hawthorn bushes. Still a few Siskins going through, and some Common Darters about. PS.
Starling – 1st November
This evening a murmuration of about 12,000 Starlings was performing over the Slurry Lagoon reed-beds. JDn.
Cattle Egret – 17th October
This morning there were signs of lots of bird movement when a Short-eared Owl was seen flying over, then three Cattle Egrets flew through and two Common Sandpipers were seen. JV.
Whooper Swan – 16th October
This morning three Whooper Swans circled the site before deciding to fly off high to the east. A Bittern was seen in the reed-bed at the north end of the Large Gravel Pit and three Ravens were seen on the pylons. At least four Common Gulls were on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
