Purple Heron – 12th May
This morning, during the Bird Count, a Purple Heron was seen flying over the site. It later appeared at Langford Lowfields. Also seen was a Sandwich Tern that spent a few minutes over the Common Tern rafts before continuing its journey north. A Hobby was seen over the Deep Pit and the Grasshopper Warbler was still singing on the Ecopark and there were good numbers seen of most of the other warbler species. Some dragonfly species were also seen, including several Hairy Dragonflies. PS.
Lesser Whitethroat – 14th April
This morning, a Grasshopper Warbler was heard on the Ecopark. During the Monthly Bird Count several Whitethroats and a Lesser Whitethroat were recorded and a White Wagtail was seen on the Ecopark. PS.
Stonechat – 21st January
This morning the male and female Stonechats were showing well on the Ecopark fencing. PS.
Redshank – 26th November
This morning, during the Bird Walk, a Raven flew over the site, several Siskins and a Redpoll were seen and an Egyptian Goose flew over from the Ecopark. At the end of the walk two Redshank flew in and looked like they went to the flashes across the river. PS
Bittern – 28th September
This morning two Bitterns were seen flying about the Slurry Lagoon. There was a slow passage of Swallows until late morning, when about fifty arrived to feed over the Slurry Lagoon. There were also three small groups of Common Snipe seen to fly around the site. PS.
In the late morning a Raven was seen on a pylon, a Hobby followed the Swallows and a Whinchat was found on the Ecopark. IEP.
Redstart – 5th May
This morning there were two Whinchats on the fencing around the Ecopark pool. The Wood Sandpiper was still present as well and, later, a Redstart was in the nearby hedgerow. MC.
Wood Sandpiper – 4th May
This morning three Grasshopper Warblers were heard, reeling, around the site. Two Yellowhammers flew over the Ecopark. IEP.
A Wood Sandpiper was seen on the Ecopark flash. RW.
Later the Wood Sandpiper was still on the Ecopark flash, with a Dunlin and a Yellow Wagtail. JDn.
Bearded Reedlings – 5th February
This morning there were six Bearded Reedlings feeding in the NE corner of the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. There was also a pair of Stonechats on the Ecopark. MW.
Marsh Harrier – 12th January
This morning a female Marsh Harrier was seen quartering the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. There were also nineteen Snipe and three Chiffchaffs on the Ecopark. IEP.
