At about 09.00 a Black-tailed Godwit flew onto the Slurry Lagoon. There were also two Snipe and about four Ravens were flying about. Later the Godwit flew off towards Holme Pierrepont. The Swallow family under the railway bridge had also, at last, fledged four chicks. The chicks were flying around the bridge and then back to the nest. PS.
Later another or the same Black-tailed Godwit re-appeared. Also coming in were four Curlew Sandpipers and two Ruff. RW.
This morning, during the Monthly Bird Count, a Raven, Whimbrel, Yellow Wagtail, Whinchat and Stonechat were recorded. NWG.
This morning there were three Ravens flying near the metal gates. Later two flew over the bird table. From the Causeway bench the Water Rails were seen again, plus Reed Warblers, Sedge Warblers and a Hobby. On the Lower Path, near the large oak at the car park end, a Spotted Flycatcher was seen. PS.
In the afternoon, two Treecreepers were found in trees along the Ouse Dyke. RJP.
There are at least 35 Yellow Wagtails in the field beside the Ouse Dyke, in front of the houses. The sub-station field still has three Whinchat present. JDn.
This morning a Snipe and a Black-tailed Godwit were on the Slurry Lagoon. A Raven flew over the site, along the Lower Path, towards the river. PS.
In the afternoon the Whinchat was found in the same area, near the substation, as it was yesterday. MC.
This afternoon a juvenile Whinchat was found beside the sub-station. There were two Ringed Plovers on the Slurry Lagoon and a pair of Ravens at the Enva site. MC.
This morning a Raven flew east over the site and later a Mediterranean Gull was seen with other gulls flying over towards the Enva site. Two young Peregrines were making practice stoops at each other over the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
This morning there was a passage of Little Gulls through the reserve. At about 08.00 ten flew through to the north. Later a single flew through and then decided to stop on the Large Gravel Pit where, at about 11.40, eleven more flew in and joined it. They were hawking St. Marks Flies over the water and were later joined by one Arctic Tern. There were also two Whimbrel seen early on, flying through to the NE. Two Ravens were around the Slurry Lagoon and a Cuckoo was also seen there. Three Lesser Whitethroats and a Garden Warbler were singing along with most of the other warbler species. PS.
This morning, an Arctic Tern was briefly over the Deep Pit (9am) before flying off south-east. A Garden Warbler was singing and showing well by the river near the railway bridge and a Grasshopper Warbler was reeling below the bench at the north-end of the Pylon Path, below the pylon. Reed Warblers were heard in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and a Raven was over the Slurry Lagoon. Two Peregrines were on the new pylon, one brought prey in, which was not far of its own size. A cream-top Marsh Harrier was seen in the early afternoon, high above the lagoons. It was mobbed by two Ravens before it drifted away. RW.
This morning there were two Ravens on one of the pylons and a Peregrine on the new pylon. A Woodcock flew from the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. PS.
