In the morning 15 Bar-tailed Godwits flew NE along the Trent. In the afternoon a Marsh Harrier flew over, a Swift flew over the Causeway(RW). In total 66 Little Gulls few into the Deep Pit (58 in one flock), 20 Bar-tailed Godwits, a Whimbrel, Little Ringed Plover and Green Sandpiper were also seen. MC.
In the evening a Grasshopper Warbler was heard for the second night running in the sub-station field. RJP.
This morning there were a Common Tern and a House martin seen over the Deep Pit. Later, ten Little Gulls came in to feed and rest and a Raven flew across the railway. A Lesser Whitethroat was singing along the Causeway. PS.
Early this morning a Bar-tailed Godwit flew north-east through the site. In the early afternoon 18 Little Gulls came in and settled on the Deep Pit, leaving a few hours later. In the early evening 27 Little Gulls came in and settled on the Deep Pit and later there were 29. MC.
At 14.00 a Wheatear was on the pylon bank of the Deep Pit. PR.
This morning there were at least five species of warbler singing. As the morning warmed up nine species of butterfly were seen, including a Green Hairstreak. PS.
This morning a pair of Mediterranean Gulls were seen flying over the Slurry Lagoon. Later one was seen on the Deep Pit. A Raven was seen on the pylons and an Egyptian Goose flew through. PS.
Later a Yellow Wagtail flew over the Wader Scrape and a Common Tern was seen in the Deep Pit. MC.
Not just Brimstones, but today was a great day for butterflies. There were good numbers of Brimstones and Orange-tips about. Also seen were Red Admiral, Peacock, Small Tortoiseshell and Holly Blue. Two Swallows were feeding briefly over the Slurry Lagoon. PS
There were lots of reports of Kittiwakes in the county. A flock of 160 were seen flying over the lagoons. Later six were seen on the Deep Pit. TW/MC.
This morning a Willow Warbler was heard singing from beside the Large Gravel Pit. RJP.
In the afternoon one was heard from the southern end of the Causeway. JDn.
This morning there were eighteen Whooper Swans on the Slurry Lagoon. Four Bearded Reedlings were seen in the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed, a Peregrine passed through and there were four Sand Martins by the railway bridge. PD.
Later a group of seven Buzzards were displaying and tussling in the same thermal. First a Raven joined them and later a Red Kite flew through them without reacting. The Whooper Swans left at about 11.30. PS.
In the late afternoon a Blackcap was singing from the Causeway. RJP.
This morning five Sand Martins were seen over the river by the railway bridge. On the flash, across the river there were two Oystercatchers. SC
