Marsh Harrier – 24th November

The cream-top Marsh Harrier was seen again this morning, quartering the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. There was a Peregrine on the new pylon and Cetti’s Warbler and Reed Bunting performed well in front of the Causeway benches. Later a Raven flew over the site, practising its barrel-rolls.

Merlin – 25th April

In the morning there was a flock of Swallows in the Deep Pit and a Yellow Wagtail. RJP.

Brambling – 8th April

This morning a Ringed Plover flew over the site towards the flooded fields by the Trent. A Raven was being mobbed by five or six Carrion Crows as it investigated the sheep and lambs across the river. A stunning male Brambling was in the Deep Pit, close to the bird table, showing really well and a Willow Warbler was singing from the Slurry Lagoon hedgerow. PS

Raven – 1st January

This morning things were pretty quiet at the lagoons. There were a lot of gulls passing through that paused briefly on the Slurry Lagoon. Several Water Rail were heard and one flew across in front of the Causeway bench. Three Cetti’s Warblers were heard singing. Two Ravens flew along the river to the pylons to perch for a while. Later a single Raven flew low over the Deep Pit. PS.
