Green Sandpiper – 29th June

This morning there were again two Green Sandpipers on the Ecopark pool. There were plenty of butterflies about, including two Small Skippers. PS.

Yesterday evening an adult Mediterranean Gull was on the Ecopark pool. RW.

Green Sandpiper – 26th June

This morning there were two Green Sandpipers on the scrape on the Ecopark, with a Little Ringed Plover and a Lapwing. A buck Roe Deer also put in an appearance. On the Slurry Lagoon the air was filled with about 120 Sand Martins, 60 Swifts and one or two House Martins. PS.

Temminck’s Stint – 19th May

This evening three Temminck’s Stints were seen on the scrape in the ‘Ecopark’. RW.

Redstart – 10th May

Today a female Redstart was seen on the fence posts along the Pylon Path. There was also a pair of Shelduck on the Slurry Lagoon. Paul.

Swift – 6th May

This morning a Hobby was seen flying along the river. A flock of five Oystercatchers flew up-river and two Swifts flew over the Deep Pit. PS.

Hobby – 5th May

This morning a Hobby flew north, across the site. Both Peregrines were on the new pylon. PS.

Common Sandpiper – 4th May

This morning a Roe Deer was seen on the Causeway. Two Common Sandpipers were along the river near the Poulser Brook. A migrant flock of about 100 Swallows and House Martins were feeding over the Slurry Lagoon and three Buzzards flew through to the north. PS.

Wood Sandpiper – 28th April

This morning the Wood Sandpiper was still present on the pools on the ‘Ecopark’. It was briefly joined by a Whimbrel, two Little Ringed Plovers and a male Yellow Wagtail. Today was Patchwatch Day and a total of 74 species of bird were seen, including ten warbler species with Grasshopper Warbler, Swift, House Martin and Cuckoo. PS.

In the evening a Little Gull briefly dropped into the Deep Pit. JDn.

Pied Flycatcher – 26th April

This morning there were ten species of warbler, singing on the reserve. Two Grasshopper Warblers were reeling near the northern pylon. A Wood Sandpiper was on the flashes beside the Ouse Dyke and a Pied Flycatcher was reported near the Wader Scrape bench. PS.

Sandwich Tern – 22nd April

This morning a Sandwich Tern flew down-river, past the Deep Pit, where three Common Terns were displaying. A Kingfisher was on the river and a Treecreeper was seen hopping about on the path, picking up food items. The Grasshopper Warbler was reeling on the Deep Pit bank, overlooking the river and a Bittern was seen, flying between reed beds on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
