At the Patchwatch today, 65 species were seen, including two Tawny Owls, two Ravens, two Yellow Wagtails, two Redshank and two Ruff. There was also a small passage of Swallows, Sand Martins and Meadow Pipits. PS.

Ruff – 10th September
Willow Warbler – 30th March
This morning a Willow Warbler was singing in the Boundary Hedge. JDn.
In the afternoon a Swallow was by the Railway Bridge with eleven Sand Martins and two Wheatears were on the Severn/Trent fields. RW.
Sand Martin – 19th March
This morning two Sand Martins were seen flying over the site, to the south. There were four Lesser Redpoll on the Lower Path and ten migrating Pied Wagtails were seen on the Severn/Trent fields. An Oystercatcher was on one of the tern-tables and a flock of 42 Mute Swans was grazing across the river. PS.
Redstart – 9th April
This morning a male Redstart was seen in the Plantation, near the Causeway end. A Sedge Warbler was singing down the bank and at least five Willow Warblers were singing around the site. Up to fifteen Chiffchaffs were singing and two Blackcaps, and a Swallow was with the Sand Martins by the railway bridge. At least two Wheatears were still on the ploughed field beyond the Wader Scrape and there was still one Goldeneye on the Large Gravel Pit. A Small Tortoiseshell and a Brimstone were seen in flight. There was also a report of a distant view of a Red Kite, towards Carlton.
Raven – 4th April
This morning two Ravens were seen on one of the pylons. Two Blackcaps, a male and a female, were along the Ouse Dyke. A Swallow and a Peregrine were also seen. JMD.
In the afternoon three Little Gulls flew through. Later on a Barn Owl was seen hunting, a Snipe was seen and about 300 Sand Martins came in to roost in the reed bed. RW.
Red Kite – 26th March
This morning a Red Kite was seen flying east over the sub-station. There were three singing Chiffchaffs, and a Sand Martin by the railway bridge. PS.
Sand Martin – 25th March
This morning there were six Sand Martins along the river by the railway bridge. One Chiffchaff was singing and lots of butterflies were out including six Small Tortoiseshells, four Peacocks, four Brimstones and two Commas. PS.
Sand Martin – 24th March
This morning a Sand Martin flew over the site towards the south. There were two Chiffchaffs singing and an Oystercatcher was on the river. PS.
Pied Flycatcher – 12th April
This morning a lot of migrants were about and a Pied Flycatcher was found in the Boundary hedge. It later moved along the hedge to Willow Pond. There were also two Little Ringed Plovers on the Wader Scrape, two Common Terns in the Deep Pit, a Common Sandpiper on the river bank, two Yellow Wagtails on the Causeway and there were lots more warblers about including Willow, Sedge and Garden Warblers and Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs. There were a few Swallows and Sand Martins and one House Martin. Also seen were a Jay and a singing Treecreeper. PS.

Little Ringed Plover – 7th April
On the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon there were two very tired looking Little Ringed Plovers. One or two Swallows were about as well as three Sand Martins and there were six Little Egrets on the Wader Scrape. PS.
