This afternoon there were three Great White Egrets on the Slurry Lagoon. About 1,000 Starlings came in to roost and a Barn Owl and a Tawny Owl were seen, as well as a Noctule and a Pipistrelle. RW.

Sand Martin – 24th March
Three Sand Martins have arrived and were seen over the river, close to the railway bridge. JDn.
In the evening a Barn Owl was seen hunting near the sub-station. IP.
Bittern – 19th November
This evening, at dusk, a Bittern was seen circling the lagoons, calling, before disappearing in the gloom. A Great White Egret was seen in the field across the river. A Raven flew through and a Barn Owl was out hunting. RW.
Bittern – 8th September
Late this afternoon the Bittern was seen again, flying across the Slurry Lagoon. The Garganey was still present, along with a Water Rail, Green Sandpiper, Snipe and four Little Egrets. JDn.
In the evening two Bitterns were seen. At dusk a Barn Owl was seen as well as a Pipistrelle and a Noctule at nightfall. RW.
Barn Owl – 22nd January
This evening a Barn Owl was seen hunting over the reserve. There were also four Water Rail, a Treecreeper, a Green Sandpiper and three Roe Deer. MT.
Barn Owl – 12th January
This morning, during the Monthly Bird Count, a Barn Owl was seen beside the Large Gravel Pit. Three Green Sandpipers were on the Eco-Park and one was on the floooded field by the railway bridge. Also seen were two Peregrines, a Kingfisher and a Treecreeper. PS.
Barn Owl – 22nd December
This morning the Barn Owl was still out hunting over the seed-crop field. Two fine drake Goldeneye were on the Large Gravel Pit and at least three Water Rail were calling in the reed beds. PS.
Starling -16th December
This evening the Starling murmuration held about 8,000 birds. A Bearded Tit dropped in to roost, two Egyptian Geese were feeding on the Severn/Trent field beside the Boundary Hedge and a Barn Owl was hunting around the Large Gravel Pit. JMD.
Tawny Owl – 31st November
This evening a Bittern was seen over the Slurry Lagoon reed-beds. Two Tawny Owls were heard calling and a Barn Owl was seen also over the reeds. RW.
Barn Owl – 24th November
This morning a Barn Owl was seen hunting along the Boundary Hedge. Two Egyptian Geese flew over to the flooded field across the river. The seed crop on the Wader Scrape had good numbers of Reed Buntings and Linnets feeding in it, a Brambling was heard near the bird table and a Chiffchaff was seen along the Ouse Dyke. PS.
