This afternoon there were three Great White Egrets on the Slurry Lagoon. About 1,000 Starlings came in to roost and a Barn Owl and a Tawny Owl were seen, as well as a Noctule and a Pipistrelle. RW.

Arctic Tern – 9th October
This morning a juvenile Arctic Tern was seen on the Slurry Lagoon before flying off in the direction of Holme Pierrepont. A Jay was seen flying along the hedge by the Wader Scrape and several Redpolls were seen flying between the Slurry Lagoon Birches. PS
Whooper Swan – 9th October
During the bird count this morning a Whooper Swan landed briefly on the Slurry Lagoon. A late Willow Warbler was also recorded and two Cetti’s Warblers were singing. PS.
Geese – 9th October
For the last few evenings large numbers of Greylag and Canada Geese have been flying on to the Slurry Lagoon to roost probably attracted to the area by the spilt corn from the harvested fields. Mid morning today over 800 Greylag and 130 Canadas were still present with some extremely light hybrids among the Greylag flock. JMD.
