At about mid-day a male Blackcap was seen along the Ouse Dyke. A Water Rail was also seen in the Ouse Dyke. On the Slurry Lagoon a count of over 400 Teal was made and on the Large Gravel Pit were 200 Wigeon. PS.

Goldeneye – 15th October
This morning two Goldeneye were seen on the Slurry Lagoon. Also seen were four Bearded Tits, two Swallows and a Bittern.
The Suspicious Wigeon remain that, as better views were obtained than yesterday. On one the moulting flanks were showing grey, not the hoped for smokey pink. It also showed an anomalous dark stripe on the crown of the head. The jury is still out on this pair. PS.
Bearded Tit – 14th October.
This morning the Slurry Lagoon hosted four male and two female Bearded Tits, two Bitterns and the bird table attracted a Brambling with a group of Greenfinches.
Also on the Slurry Lagoon there were two Wigeon that looked suspiciously like American Wigeon. They were feeding on the submerged aquatic vegetation and one looked like a male moulting out of juvenile plumage. The other looked browner and more like a Eurasian Wigeon. PS.
Ruff – 9th October
During the Bird Count this morning two Ruff flew around the Slurry Lagoon but did not stop. Also seen were Siskin, Redpoll and there were eight Snipe on the Slurry Lagoon. The Wigeon count is now in excess of 500. PS.
Common Sandpiper – 26th September
At the lagoons this morning, still more Wigeon have arrived and there was a Common Sandpiper on the river bank. PS.
Pintail – 25th September
This morning there were over 120 Wigeon on the Large Gravel Pit. On the Slurry Lagoon there were still three Red-crested Pochard, and these were joined briefly by a male eclipse Pintail. There were some Snipe and Water Rail about as well and still some warblers. PS.
Whinchat – 18th September
This morning, during the Bird Walk, a male Whinchat was found near the sub-station railings, a Peregrine was on one of the pylons, a Red-crested Pochard was on the Slurry Lagoon, and four Snipe flew over the Slurry Lagoon reed-beds. Several large flocks of tits and warblers were seen and a passage of Swallows was under way. On the Large Gravel Pit the group of four or five Wigeon, seen on Friday, had grown to nearer eighty. PS.
Wigeon – 9th August
This morning a Wigeon and a juvenile Shelduck were on the Slurry Lagoon. In the afternoon a Hobby was seen over the Gravel Pits. PS.
Greenshank – 13th September
This morning, during the bird count, two Whinchats were found on the area between the substation and the reserve. Three Greenshank flew over and 44 Wigeon were on the Large Gravel Pit. A Peregrine attacked the pigeons on the Slurry Lagoon and a Hobby was catching insects over the Deep Pit. There were still some warblers about, with Garden, Sedge, Reed and Willow being seen as well as Blackcap, Chiffchaff and Whitethroat. PS.
Willow Tit – 9th September
Early this afternoon a Willow Tit was seen along the Lower Path. On the Slurry Lagoon there was a Dunlin and a Snipe, 83 Teal and 54 Shoveler. A Hobby was seen and 25 Wigeon were on the Large Gravel Pit. RW.
