This morning there were eight Siskins feeding in Alders along the Access Track, a Red Kite glided over the Large Gravel Pit and an Oystercatcher flew over the Deep Pit towards the river. A Chiffchaff was singing along the Ouse Dyke, another along the Lower Path and one along the Riverside Walk. PS/DM/RJP/IEP.
A first winter Caspian Gull was amongst the gulls at the Enva site this morning and Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and Little Egret were along the Ouse Dyke. MC.
The pair of Peregrines were on the new pylon, three male and two female Goldeneye were on the Large Gravel Pit. PS.
This morning the fifty plus Lesser Redpolls were in birches at the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon. Six female Goosander flew over the Large Gravel Pit and at least one of them came in and landed. Later in the morning two Peregrines were seen taking a kill to the top of the new pylon. PS/IEP.
This morning there were 11 Whooper Swan in total. 6 flew through west calling, there was a single bird briefly on the Large Gravel Pit before being chased off by Mute Swans and 4 flew east late morning. -The 1st winter Caspian Gull was still on the Deep Pit.-c250 Redwing in several flocks through the morning.- A Drake Pintail still on the Eco-park.- 10+ Skylark through. This morning there was a female Goldeneye on the Large Gravel Pit. A Great White Egret was also seen flying over the Deep Pit. The Slurry Lagoon has in excess of 100 Wigeon feeding on it. PS, RJP.
This morning six House Martins were feeding over the Slurry Lagoon, when a Hobby alarmed them as it flew through and over to the Large Gravel Pit. A Weasel was seen crossing the Causeway Path. PS/AAS.
This morning a Grasshopper Warbler was heard reeling around the northern end of the Large Gravel Pit. A Lesser Whitethroat was also heard close to the Willow Walk and there are more tern chicks visible on the tern rafts.
This morning a Bittern was seen, first flying around the Deep Pit and then over the Slurry Lagoon, there was also a Little Egret in the Deep Pit. The Mute Swans on the Slurry Lagoon now have five cygnets and the pair on the Large Gravel Pit have three. A Cuckoo was heard calling for about an hour from the large willow by the Large Gravel Pit. This morning the Cuckoo was calling from the Slurry Lagoon and there were two Hobbies over the Large Gravel Pit. Some teneral Common Blue Damselflies were flying. PS.
This morning the warblers were all singing well at the lagoons – apart from the Grasshopper Warbler – . There were two Lesser Whitethroats singing and a Hobby was seen hawking St. Mark’s Flies over the Slurry Lagoon. A Cuckoo was calling from the large willow beside the Large Gravel Pit. PS.
