Raven – 12th September
This morning two Ravens were seen flying high over the site. One was doing barrel rolls and back flips whilst the other came down to deal with a food item on the ground. A Peregrine was also seen flying across the Large Gravel Pit, carrying prey. PS.
Ruff – 10th September
At the Patchwatch today, 65 species were seen, including two Tawny Owls, two Ravens, two Yellow Wagtails, two Redshank and two Ruff. There was also a small passage of Swallows, Sand Martins and Meadow Pipits. PS.
Wheatear – 4th September
This afternoon a Wheatear was seen on the Deep Pit fence posts. JDn.
Yellow Wagtail – 28th August
This morning a Yellow Wagtail flew over the site to the south. A Sparrowhawk was seen to fly in a direct line in fast, active flight, across the Slurry Lagoon and straight into the reeds on the opposite side to emerge almost straight away with what was presumably a hapless Reed Warbler in its talons. Spotted Flycatcher – 25th August
This afternoon a Spotted Flycatcher was seen along the Ouse Dyke. JMD.
Bittern – 20th August
This morning, during the Wildlife Walk, a Bittern was showing well on the Slurry Lagoon. It was perched at the top of the reeds and seemed to be sunning itself for over half an hour. Later it was seen flying across the lagoon. A Raven was also seen flying over the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
Black Tern – 7th August
The juvenile Black Tern came in to roost again tonight at 20.05hrs, with the Common Terns on the Deep Pit platform. JMD.
Black Tern – 6th August
This evening, at about 20.15hrs, the immature Black Tern came in to roost with the Common Terns. The female Pintail was still on the Slurry Lagoon and, at about 21.05, a Barn Owl was seen hunting. TW.
Black Tern – 3rd August
The juvenile Black Tern came in to roost again tonight with the Common Terns on a tern platform. JMD.
