Common Sandpiper – 7th August
This afternoon a Common Sandpiper, a Green Sandpiper and a Little Egret were all on the Slurry Lagoon. JMD.
Black Tern – 7th August
The juvenile Black Tern came in to roost again tonight at 20.05hrs, with the Common Terns on the Deep Pit platform. JMD.
Clouded Yellow – 7th August
A Clouded Yellow butterfly was found this afternoon, by the river, near the railway bridge. SC.
Later a Vollucella inanis hoverfly was also found. PS.
Common Sandpiper – 7th August
Late in the afternoon a Common Sandpiper was pecking insects from the sloping sides of one of the Tern Platforms. JMD.
Whimbrel – 7th August
This morning a Whimbrel flew through and there were two juvenile Little Ringed Plovers and a Green Sandpiper on the Slurry lagoon. Later two Snipe and another Green Sandpiper came in.
The Pond Dipping session netted several interesting creepy crawlies and included a Three-spined Loach and a Ten-spined Stickleback. PS.
Hobby – 7th August
A Hobby caused panic among the Swallows congregating on the wires above the Railway Bridge and seven Yellow Wagtails were working the paths surrounding the Deep Pit.
Marsh Harrier – 7th August
A cream topped Marsh Harrier flew south over the lagoons at 4.30 this afternoon. A Brown Argus was found on the Slurry Lagoon bank near the old entrance (D3).
