Raven – 4th April
This morning two Ravens were seen on one of the pylons. Two Blackcaps, a male and a female, were along the Ouse Dyke. A Swallow and a Peregrine were also seen. JMD.
In the afternoon three Little Gulls flew through. Later on a Barn Owl was seen hunting, a Snipe was seen and about 300 Sand Martins came in to roost in the reed bed. RW.
Willow Warbler – 3rd April
This morning there were about twenty Sand Martins by the railway bridge, which were briefly joined by a lone Swallow. Beside the Slurry Lagoon a Willow Warbler sang briefly and a Little Ringed Plover flew over. There are now at least fifteen Chiffchaffs singing around the site. PS. SC.
Marsh Harrier – 1st April
This morning a male Marsh Harrier flew through to the north. In the evening a Little Ringed Plover displayed over the Slurry Lagoon, dry end. PS.
Osprey – 31st March
This afternoon an Osprey paused over the Slurry Lagoon as if it was about to fish, but two Buzzards moved in and if flew higher and off to the north. RW.
Brent Goose – 28th March
This morning three Brent Geese flew over the site to the north. A young male Peregrine was also seen. PS.
Red Kite – 26th March
This morning a Red Kite was seen flying east over the sub-station. There were three singing Chiffchaffs, and a Sand Martin by the railway bridge. PS.
Sand Martin – 25th March
This morning there were six Sand Martins along the river by the railway bridge. One Chiffchaff was singing and lots of butterflies were out including six Small Tortoiseshells, four Peacocks, four Brimstones and two Commas. PS.
Sand Martin – 24th March
This morning a Sand Martin flew over the site towards the south. There were two Chiffchaffs singing and an Oystercatcher was on the river. PS.
Waterside Care – 19th March
On Saturday afternoon a Waterside Care group, led by Mark Glover, went to work on the Ouse Dyke between the culvert on Teal Close and the footbridge onto the Lagoons nature reserve. They removed a mountain of litter, including tyres, a bike and a skateboard as well as pulling up vast quantities of balsam seedlings. Mark said it was a very successful afternoon.
