Stonechat – 21st September

A male Stonechat was seen near the Small Gravel Pit this afternoon. Also seen were several House Martins and a Sand Martin, one Grey Wagtail and six Common Snipe. RW.

Raven – 4th February

This morning 80 Pink-footed Geese flew west, over the site. A Peregrine was on the pylon, two Ravens flew downriver and a Stonechat was seen on the Wader Scrape. The fields near the sub-station held a large flock of small birds that contained mainly Chaffinches, Redwings, Goldfinches, Song Thrushes and Starlings. PS.

Stonechat – 19th December

This morning a male Stonechat was in the field by the sub-station. A Chiffchaff was seen along the Ouse Dyke and a Water Rail ran across it as well as at least two more were heard calling. JMD.

A male Stonechat was seen on the Wader Scrape early this afternoon. RW.

Stonechat – 3rd October

This morning a female Stonechat was on the fence beside the Deep Pit, on the pylon side. It was foraging on the inner bank of the pit. PS.

Jack Snipe – 7th March

The Jack Snipe was back in its usual spot on the Wader Scrape this morning. Also seen was a male Stonechat and three Buzzards. Four Cetti’s Warblers were heard singing. SC.

This morning a male Stonechat was on the Wader Scrape and sixty-seven Shoveler were on the Slurry Lagoon. Three Cetti’s Warblers were singing and Water Rails were heard in the reed beds. PS.

This morning a female Stonechat was at the foot of the bank in front of the Wader Scrape. Four Cetti’s Warblers and two Water Rails were heard and a flock of thirty Redwings was on the Wader Scrape. PS.

Chiffchaff – 1st March

This morning a Chiffchaff was along the Ouse Dyke and four Stonechats were seen together in front of the sub-station. JDn.

Bittern – 26th February

This morning two Oystercatchers flew over the Slurry Lagoon, calling, and a Bittern was seen in the Deep Pit. One male Stonechat was still present in front of the sub-station. Two Cetti’s Warblers were heard as well as two Water Rails. PS.
