This morning there were thirty Lesser Redpolls in the birches on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon, twenty Greenfinches came out of the roost at Rossi’s, six Song Thrushes and three Cetti’s Warblers were singing and a Comma flew across the Wheelchair Ramp. PS.

Raven – 4th February
This morning 80 Pink-footed Geese flew west, over the site. A Peregrine was on the pylon, two Ravens flew downriver and a Stonechat was seen on the Wader Scrape. The fields near the sub-station held a large flock of small birds that contained mainly Chaffinches, Redwings, Goldfinches, Song Thrushes and Starlings. PS.
Pintail – 3rd January
Happy New Year
This morning a drake Pintail touched down briefly on the Slurry Lagoon and the two Stonechats were together on the Wader Scrape. There were five Little Egrets and a herd of about forty Mute Swans across the river, upstream from the Railway Bridge, and a small flock of mixed Redwings and Song Thrushes on the Wader Scrape, with another four Song Thrushes singing around the reserve. Five Cetti’s Warblers were heard and eleven Golden-eye were on the Large Gravel Pit. PS.
Tawny Owl – 19th November
This morning the Tawny Owl on the bank of the Deep Pit was showing very clearly owing to the loss of leaves from the tree. Meanwhile two Cetti’s Warblers were singing on either side of the Causeway and four small Brown Rats were feeding on the table near the railway,while being serenaded by a Song Thrush. AE.
Peregrine, Stoat – 6th November
This morning a Peregrine flew over carrying a pigeon, while on the river bank a good view of a Stoat was obtained which was being shadowed by a small flock of Song Thrushes and several Magpies. Later a Kestrel and a Sparrowhawk were seen, and also 10 Golden Plover were on the slurry. AE
