Grasshopper Warbler – 20th June

This morning a Grasshopper Warbler was heard reeling around the northern end of the Large Gravel Pit. A Lesser Whitethroat was also heard close to the Willow Walk and there are more tern chicks visible on the tern rafts.

Bittern – 30th May

A Bittern was reported to have dropped into the reed bed in the Deep Pit. The Treecreepers by the footbridge have fledged at least one chick which was seen this morning and two Lesser Whitethroats were heard singing. DM.

Red Kite – 27th May

This morning the hepatic female Cuckoo was seen on the Slurry Lagoon. A Hobby was joined by a Red Kite as they both hawked for damselflies above the Pylon Path. All ten warbler species were heard singing, ( Cetti’s, Willow, Reed, Sedge, Garden, Grasshopper, Whitethroat, Lesser Whitethroat, Blackcap and Chiffchaff.) some in good numbers. Later two Hobbies were hawking damselflies over the Slurry Lagoon and a Water Rail was heard chipping from the reed bed. The damselflies included Red-eyed, Common Blue and Blue-tailed plus a Four-spotted Chaser was seen. PS.

Hobby – 12th May

This morning the warblers were all singing well at the lagoons – apart from the Grasshopper Warbler – . There were two Lesser Whitethroats singing and a Hobby was seen hawking St. Mark’s Flies over the Slurry Lagoon. A Cuckoo was calling from the large willow beside the Large Gravel Pit. PS.

Ruddy Shelduck – 11th May

This morning there were three Lapwings, four Common Terns and a Ruddy Shelduck (flew over) on the Ecopark. A Treecreeper was by the bridge from the Ouse Dyke, and there were two Cuckoo’s on site, one around the Large Gravel pit, one perched in a birch in the Slurry Lagoon reeds. Also there was a Lesser Whitethroat and Garden Warbler amongst the warblers. IEP.

Dunlin – 30th April

This morning there was a Dunlin and a Shelduck on the Ecopark. A Lesser Whitethroat and two Garden Warblers were singing on the reserve. PR.

Lesser Whitethroat – 29th April

There was a Green Sandpiper and two Little Ringed Plovers on the Ecopark. A Grasshopper Warbler and a Lesser Whitethroat were near the corner of the Deep Pit, beside the Large Gravel Pit. IEP.

Common Sandpiper – 30th August

This morning a flock of about 20 House Martins and 10 Sand Martins was seen above the Causeway, which also included one Swift. A Lesser Whitethroat was seen along the Causeway. On the river, near the confluence with the Poulser Brook, a Common Sandpiper was seen and a Raven flew over. PS

Cuckoo – 26th April

This morning two Cuckoos were calling from opposite sides of the Slurry Lagoon. There were seventeen singing Chiffchaffs, ten singing Willow Warblers, fourteen singing Blackcaps, four singing Garden Warblers, seven singing Lesser Whitethroats, twelve singing Whitethroats, thirteen singing Sedge Warblers and ten singing Reed Warblers. Curlew – 15th April

This morning a Curlew was heard calling as it flew over the site. A Jay flew across the Slurry Lagoon and there was a singing Lesser Whitethroat. PS.
