This afternoon the gull roost on the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon contained three Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the Lesser Black-backs. On the wet end there was a Green Sandpiper and two Oystercatchers flew over the Deep Pit. PS.

Pochard – 4th July
A female Pochard was seen on the Slurry Lagoon with a new brood of three ducklings today. There was also a Green Sandpiper close to the reeds. Several Brown Hawkers were seen as well as good numbers of Ringlets and Small Skippers. PS.
Green Sandpiper – 4th July
The Green Sandpiper is still present but likes to hide behind the roosting ducks on the extreme left hand side of the Slurry Lagoon. A Little Ringed Plover tried to feed along the water’s edge but was chased away by the Common Terns. The Gadwall ducklings are doing well and have been joined by a new brood of Pochard ducklings today. JMD.
Mediterranean Gull – 30th June
An adult Med Gull was preening for some time on the Slurry Lagoon late afternoon. Also present was a Black-tailed Godwit and a Green Sandpiper plus an adult Little Ringed Plover. The Gadwall reported the other day with eleven ducklings has increased her brood to an incredible fourteen! JMD.
Green Sandpiper – 27th June
This morning two Green Sandpipers and three Little Egrets were on the Slurry Lagoon. There was also a Brown Hawker and thirty Six-belted Clearwings. RW.
Later in the afternoon a Black-tailed Godwit arrived on the Slurry Lagoon. RW.
Reed Warbler – 7th October
A Reed Warbler was feeding along the edge of the reed bed at the back of the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon; while two Green Sandpiper and a Ruff were on the water’s edge. Common Snipe numbers are slowly increasing with at least twelve seen today. The two Red-crested Pochard are still present on the Large Gravel Pit. A few insects are still about particularly Migrant Hawkers. JMD.
Curlew – 17th September
This afternoon two Curlews were heard calling on the Slurry Lagoon and eventualy flew off to the south. There were also two Green Sandpipers and later a single Golden Plover flew in, calling loudly. There were still some Swallows by the railway bridge and two Yellow Wagtails flew over the site. Along the access track there were two Commas and along the Boundary Hedge two more Commas and a Red Admiral. PS.
Waders – 4th September
Waders are still dropping in to rest and feed before continuing on to their wintering grounds and this afternoon a lovely bright juvenile Ruff and yet another Green Sandpiper were resting and feeding along the edge of the Slurry Lagoon. JMD.
Ruff – 2nd September
This evening a juvenile Ruff flew onto the Slurry Lagoon, there was also a Green Sandpiper and two Water Rail. Two Common Terns flew through and a Hobby was catching dragonflies before joining in some aerial capers with a Sparrowhawk and two Kestrels.
Hobby – 27th August
Today on the Slurry Lagoon there were two Green Sandpipers and a Hobby was seen catching insects. Four terns, which proved to be three adults and one juvenile Common Tern, flew in to bathe before continuing on migration and later two more juveniles did the same thing. One or two Yellow Wagtails also flew over. PS.
