This morning there were two Grasshopper Warblers reeling on the Slurry Lagoon. Overnight several Whitethroats had come in and female Blackcaps seem more numerous. A female Merlin flew low across the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and across the railway land and four Common Terns were on the Deep Pit. PS.

Merlin – 15th April
Common Tern – 13th April
This morning there were two Common Terns on the Deep Pit, four Little Ringed Plovers on the Wader Scrape and two on the Slurry Lagoon dry end. There were several Sedge Warblers, three Lesser Whitethroats, three Swallows, six Sand Martins and a House Martin. PS.
Green Sandpiper – 10th April
This afternoon, on the Wader Scrape, there was a Green Sandpiper, a Dunlin, three Little Ringed Plovers and a White Wagtail. A Swallow flew through and several Sand Martins were seen. In the reed bed on the Slurry Lagoon a Sedge Warbler was singing. PS. RW.
Common Scoter – 4th April
Late this morning a flock of eleven Common Scoters (8 males and 3 females) settled on the Slurry Lagoon and stayed all afternoon. There were several flocks of Black-headed Gulls passing through, which included two individual Little Gulls. Willow Warblers are now singing on site and a Little Ringed Plover was on the Wader Scrape. PS, RW.
Red-crested Pochard – 14th March
This afternoon a Chiffchaff was singing along the Lower Path and a Redshank was heard calling as it flew over the site. There were five male Cetti’s Warblers singing and a pair of Red-crested Pochard were on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.

Red Kite – 2nd March
This morning at about 09.30 a Red Kite flew low across the Slurry Lagoon. There are still 57 Mute Swans on the oil-seed rape and some Great Crested Grebes have arrived and are setting up territories. Three Cetti’s Warblers were heard singing in the Haven, Deep Pit and Slurry Lagoon reed bed. PS.
Pintail – 5th January
This morning there were four Little Egrets, a Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail and Chiffchaff along the Ouse Dyke. The Slurry Lagoon held good numbers of Teal and some Pochard, the Deep Pit had Tufted Duck and Mallard and the Large Gravel Pit held Wigeon, Gadwall and a single male Pintail. PS
Egyptian Goose – 26th December
There were lots of thrushes and finches feeding on the site this morning. Three Little Egrets were on the Ouse Dyke and Wader Scrape and four Egyptian Geese flew over the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
Goldeneye – 3rd November
An eclipse male Goldeneye was on the river and later the Slurry Lagoon this morning. Seven Little Egrets were present briefly on the Wader Scrape, until a dog walker flushed them. Along the railway line was a small finch flock that contained two Lesser Redpoll. PS.
Yellow-legged Gull – 25th October
This afternoon a Yellow-legged Gull was in the gull roost on the Slurry Lagoon. JMD.
