This morning a Wood Warbler was found on the railway embankment beside the signal box. Also seen were a Hobby and a Cuckoo. RW.

Cuckoo – 13th August
A Cuckoo was seen today flying along the Ouse Dyke. It was using the trees and bushes to look for insects and with good views it was seen to be a juvenile – it’s white nape patch clearly visible. JMD.
Cuckoo – 19th May
This morning a Warbler Walk was led around the reserve and ten species of warbler were heard. A Cuckoo was heard calling across the Slurry Lagoon and a Hobby appeared briefly by the railway bridge. There were also plenty of butterflies and other insects about. PS.
Lesser Scaup – 21st April
An adult male Lesser Scaup was seen today, feeding with a small flock of Tufted Duck on the Slurry Lagoon. It was also mate guarding the only female in the flock. Also seen were Garden Warbler, Grasshopper Warbler, Lesser Whitethroat, Yellow Wagtail, Little Ringed Plover and Common Sandpiper. CH, RW.

In the afternoon a Cuckoo flew over the Slurry Lagoon. RW.
Hobby – 17th May
There were a large number of Swifts feeding over the site this morning, with smaller numbers of hirundines. By the railway bridge a Hobby appeared and stooped towards the Large Gravel Pit. A Cuckoo was calling and an Oystercatcher was on the Wader Scrape. PS.
Garden Warbler – 2nd May
A Garden Warbler was feeding and calling in bushes close to the Ouse Dyke bridge early afternoon. JMD.
A second Garden Warbler was singing and showing well by the riverside, and two Cuckoos were heard calling. The warm weather also tempted some butterflies out and 5 Brimstones, 11 Orange Tips and 8 Green-veined Whites were counted. PS.
Cuckoo – 30th April
A Cuckoo was heard today in the area between the Large Gravel Pit and the river. DG.
Dunlin – 23rd May
A single Dunlin was feeding along the Slurry edge this evening while behind him two Yellow Wagtails were weaving in and out of the reeds. The Cetti’s was calling well and a Cuckoo managed to cling on to a branch of a tree in the Deep Pit and sing at the same time and again Swifts were zooming around coming very low over the Site. JMD.
Greenshank – 2nd May
This morning a Greenshank briefly joined the Dunlin and Garganey on the Slurry Lagoon. A Peregrine caused panic amongst the feral pigeons and Carrion Crows, and two male Cuckoos were around the Gravel and Deep Pits. Good numbers of warblers were counted and one or two Yellow Wagtails flew across the site. PS.
Garganey – 29th April
The male Garganey was still present on the Slurry Lagoon this morning. The female Goosander was also still present on the river by the Poulser Brook. There were seven Garden Warblers singing and two Cuckoos were seen. PS.
