This evening there were three Hobbies hunting insects over the Large Gravel Pit. JMD.
This morning there was a report of a Whinchat on the Deep Pit fence posts below the power lines. Two Grasshopper Warblers were reeling, one by the Hump and the other by Willow Pond. Some Swifts were passing through with some House Martins and a Shelduck flew through upriver. PS.
A female Marsh Harrier was quartering the Slurry Lagoon reed bed this afternoon. It seemed to pounce on something and disappeared for a while into the reeds. Later it was up again and being pursued by three Carrion Crows. Despite this it dropped into the reeds again and remained there. PS.
This morning a Greenshank briefly joined the Dunlin and Garganey on the Slurry Lagoon. A Peregrine caused panic amongst the feral pigeons and Carrion Crows, and two male Cuckoos were around the Gravel and Deep Pits. Good numbers of warblers were counted and one or two Yellow Wagtails flew across the site. PS.
