In the afternoon thirteen Arctic Terns went through and there were also four or more Common Terns on the site. Also present were one Grasshopper Warbler, one Swift, sixty plus Swallows and six or more House Martins and a Red Kite. A Great White Egret flew over in the evening. RW.

Arctic Tern – 28th April
Arctic Tern – 9th October
This morning a juvenile Arctic Tern was seen on the Slurry Lagoon before flying off in the direction of Holme Pierrepont. A Jay was seen flying along the hedge by the Wader Scrape and several Redpolls were seen flying between the Slurry Lagoon Birches. PS
Arctic Tern – 27th August
This afternoon a juvenile Arctic Tern passed through. There were two Green Sandpipers and a Garganey on the Slurry Lagoon and a Common Sandpiper and a Green Sandpiper on the Ecopark. Also seen was a flock of around 50 Goldfinches. RW.
Arctic Tern – 14th April
During this morning’s Bird Count, a lone Arctic Tern flew through and a Little Gull flew through with a Black-headed Gull flock. A Whitethroat was singing near the river and 33 Blackcaps, 19 Chiffchaffs, 16 Willow Warblers and 2 Sedge Warblers were heard singing. PS.
Arctic Tern – 8th May
This morning there was an Arctic Tern which flew around the Slurry Lagoon and Deep Pit before leaving, going north-east. On the river there was a Common Sandpiper and a large group of Swallows and Swifts paused to forage over the Slurry Lagoon before continuing passage north and a Cuckoo was heard briefly. PS.
Arctic Tern – 12th April
This afternoon an Arctic Tern was seen briefly, feeding over the Large Gravel Pit. A Dunlin and two Little Ringed Plovers were on the flooded field across the river. RW.
In the evening a male Ring Ouzle was on the Wader Scrape. JMD.
Bittern – 22nd September
At about midday a Bittern was seen flying across the Slurry Lagoon, dropping into the reed bed to the right of the Causeway bench. As one had been seen earlier dropping in at the same spot it might mean there are two Bitterns in residence. There are now four Pintails also on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.
In the afternoon a juvenile Arctic Tern and a Hobby were seen. RW.
Arctic Tern – 23rd August
This afternoon a juvenile Arctic Tern paid a brief visit to the Slurry Lagoon, as did a Yellow-legged Gull. Three Greenshank spent most of the afternoon there and there are now three Garganey. Two Clouded Yellows and a Painted Lady were also seen. PS.
