This afternoon the Slurry Lagoon held a Bittern, seven Bearded Tits, five Water Rail, one Jack Snipe, nine Common Snipe, fourteen Lapwings and around 250 Starlings. RW.

Bittern – 5th October
Bearded Tit – 1st October
Late this morning, fourteen Bearded Tits were seen to arrive at the Slurry Lagoon reed beds. RW.
Peregrine – 30th September
This morning the Great White Egret was still on the Slurry Lagoon, and two Egyptian Geese were amongst the vast flock of Greylags and Canadas. A Peregrine flew in from the south over the Deep Pit and was set upon by two more Peregrines in a spectacular aerial battle. All three birds eventually disappearing towards the north-east. PS.
Great White Egret – 29th September
The Great White Egret was again on the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon. Also there were over forty Shoveler. RW.
Hobby – 24th September
This afternoon, during the bird walk, a Hobby was seen catching dragonflies over the Deep Pit. In the morning, eight House Martin, two Great-spotted Woodpecker and two Wigeon were seen. PS.
Raven – 22nd September
This morning a Raven flew across the site, pausing on a pylon on its way. A Kingfisher was seen on the riverbank and there were two Grey Wagtails and four Little Egrets on the Ouse Dyke. Overhead there was a light passage of Swallows and House Martins, with some Meadow Pipits and Siskins. In the bushes there were still plenty of Chiffchaffs and a few Blackcaps, and a Jay was seen. Stonechat – 21st September
A male Stonechat was seen near the Small Gravel Pit this afternoon. Also seen were several House Martins and a Sand Martin, one Grey Wagtail and six Common Snipe. RW.
Pintail – 20th September
A Pintail was seen on the Slurry Lagoon today. RW.
Great White Egret – 16th September
The Great White Egret was still on the Slurry Lagoon this morning. A light passage of Swallows was noticed and some Sand Martins were near the railway bridge. These were attacked by a Hobby, which appeared to have caught something. Later the same or another Hobby was seen, again attacking the Sand Martins, over the Deep Pit. PS.
