Stonechat – 22nd November

This morning a Stonechat was seen between the Wader Scrape and the Ouse Dyke banks. A Jay flew by as well as a Kingfisher. On the Slurry Lagoon there was a Shelduck, with a single Pochard on the Deep Pit and a Goldeneye on the Large Gravel Pit. PS

Great White Egret – 10th November

Early this morning the Great White Egret was seen on the Slurry Lagoon but again was seen off by a Heron. Later seen on the field across the river. At mid-day two Egyptian Geese flew across the site. PS.

Great White Egret – 9th November

This morning there were seven species of duck on the Slurry Lagoon, including good numbers of Wigeon, Shoveler and Gadwall. On the wheat field across the river a Great White Egret was stood amongst a flock of Black-headed Gulls. There were still plenty of winter thrushes and Lesser Redpoll about. PS.

Red-crested Pochard – 8th November

This morning, during the bird count, a male and female Red-crested Pochard were on the Large Gravel Pit, along with a male Pintail. There was a flock of over twenty Lesser Redpoll at the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon. The Greylag Goose flock now numbers well over 1,000. PS.

Brambling – 6th November

This morning a Brambling was calling from the bushes at the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon and nearby, in the Birches, was a small flock of Lesser Redpolls. A Redshank was heard calling from the Slurry Lagoon and the female Pintail was still present. PS

Stonechat – 25th October

This morning a pair of Stonechats were seen near the sub-station. There were plenty of Redpolls flying about and some were on the birches at the dry end of the Slurry Lagoon. PS.

Great White Egret – 19th October

This afternoon, during the Bird Walk, a Great White Egret flew onto the Slurry Lagoon. Unfortunately a Grey Heron took exception and saw it off. Also seen was a pair of Egyptian Geese and there was a good variety of gulls and ducks on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.

Bittern – 18th October

This morning the Bittern was seen flying over the Causeway from the Slurry Lagoon to the Deep Pit. A Great White Egret was seen near Stoke Lock and the Pintail was still on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.

Brambling – 14th October

This morning there were plenty of Redwing about and a few Fieldfares. Skylark, Redpoll and Siskin were also flying over and a Brambling was heard along the Ouse Dyke. One Pintail was still present on the Slurry Lagoon. PS.

Arctic Tern – 9th October

This morning a juvenile Arctic Tern was seen on the Slurry Lagoon before flying off in the direction of Holme Pierrepont. A Jay was seen flying along the hedge by the Wader Scrape and several Redpolls were seen flying between the Slurry Lagoon Birches. PS
