Peregrine – 7th January

This morning the flood water had subsided considerably and the Trent was back in its normal course. Three Egyptian Geese flew through, low over the Deep Pit and a Peregrine made a playful stoop at a group of feeding Pheasants. PS.

Marsh Harrier – 7th December

The juvenile Marsh Harrier was seen again this morning, pursued by crows until it dropped into the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. Also a calling Green Sandpiper flew over the Slurry Lagoon towards the Ecopark, followed later by two Common Snipe and a Water Rail made its dash across the gap in front of the Causeway bench. PS.

Brambling – 7th December

Amongst a large finch flock beside the Ouse Dyke path this afternoon a Brambling was spotted. A Treecreeper was also seen in trees on the Ouse Dyke bank. SC.

Goosander – 7th December

This afternoon there were two female Goosander on the Large Gravel Pit, along with four female Goldeneye and some Gadwall and Wigeon. On the Deep Pit there were five male Goldeneye and several Mallard. The gull roost on the Slurry Lagoon contained an estimated 700 Greater Black-backs and at least twice as many Herring Gulls. There were well in excess of 2,000 birds. There were still good numbers of Shoveler and Teal as well as a Shelduck. A Cetti’s Warbler was heard calling in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. PS.
