This morning, during the Monthly Bird Count, eight Bearded Reedlings were seen in the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed. Also seen were a Pintail, a Green Sandpiper and a Brambling . 29 golden Plovers also circled the Slurry Lagoon before flying off. MC.

Short-eared Owl – 13th November
This morning, during the bird count, a Short-eared Owl was seen over the Deep Pit. It was mobbed by three crows which forced it to fly very high and then off to the south. There were plenty of winter thrushes and ducks about, with four Goldeneye on the Large Gravel Pit and three Little Egrets on the Ouse Dyke. Also several Water Rails and Cetti’s Warblers were heard. Bittern – 13th November
This morning there was a large flock of Redpolls and Goldfinches feeding on the willow-herb and burdock at the foot of the bank overlooking the Wader Scrape. A Bittern flew into the Deep Pit and landed in a reedbed adjacent to the Causeway. PS.

On the causeway this morning a Bittern flew overhead from the Deep Pit and landed in the reed bed near the eastern corner of the Slurry Lagoon. AE.
