This afternoon on the Slurry Lagoon there was a Greenshank, a Green Sandpiper and a probable Caspian Gull. Most of the terns had gone with only one present on one of the breeding platforms for part of the afternoon. RW, PS.

Greenshank – 26th July
Green Sandpiper – 23rd July
Two Green Sandpipers were again on the Slurry Lagoon – an adult and a juvenile – resting and feeding. Also feeding along the Slurry edge was a Little Ringed Plover and among the gulls were at least three Yellow-legged Gulls. A new brood of five Tuftie ducklings were the first for the year and again along the path edges to the west of the Slurry Lagoon quite a number of Long-winged Coneheads were seen although they weren’t stridulating. Little Egret – 22nd July
On the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon there were one Little Egret, 43 Common Tern, 102 Lapwing, one Common Sandpiper, two Green Sandpipers, two Yellow-legged Gulls and a Water Rail. RW.
Dunlin – 18th July
Two Dunlin were on the Slurry Lagoon this morning as well as a Yellow Wagtail and five Yellow-legged Gulls amongst the Lesser Black-back flock. At least fifteen Long-winged Coneheads were by the path at the NW corner of the Slurry Lagoon. PS. AE.
Green Sandpiper – 16th July
On the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon was a Green Sandpiper and five Yellow-legged Gulls. All of the tern chicks have flown from one of the tern platforms and are now also on the Slurry Lagoon. RW.
Wood Sandpiper – 14th July
A Wood Sandpiper was seen briefly this afternoon on the Slurry Lagoon, a Redshank and a Yellow-legged Gull were also present. At the north end of the Slurry Lagoon there was an Essex Skipper along with three male and one female Long-winged Coneheads.
Later in the afternoon an adult Mediterranean Gull, three juvenile Little Ringed Plovers and two Shoveler visited the Slurry Lagoon. RW.
Redshank – 13th July
Three Redshank were feeding on the muddy parts of the Slurry Lagoon this afternoon and some of the tern chicks had made the short flight from the Deep Pit. PS.
Black-tailed Godwit – 5th July
Three beautiful summer plumaged Black-tailed Godwits were on the Slurry this afternoon feeding among the Black-headed Gulls and at the back of the Slurry right on the reed bed edge was a Common Sandpiper. JMD. PS.
Fox and Gulls – 4th July
The gull roost on the Slurry Lagoon is beginning to build up again and today there were about sixty Black-headed Gulls, including about ten juveniles and several Lesser Black-backs. Suddenly a fox dashed out of the reed-bed, grabbed one and disappeared again. All of the gulls took to the air but soon settled back down again. Amongst the gulls were a few Lapwings and a Redshank. A Willow Tit was heard again along the Lower Path. PS.
