At least three Reed Warblers were singing in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. Also there were Sedge Warblers, Willow Warblers, Whitethroats, Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs. A Redshank was heard calling around the Large Gravel Pit. IEP.

Reed Warbler – 22nd April
Cuckoo – 26th April
This morning two Cuckoos were calling from opposite sides of the Slurry Lagoon. There were seventeen singing Chiffchaffs, ten singing Willow Warblers, fourteen singing Blackcaps, four singing Garden Warblers, seven singing Lesser Whitethroats, twelve singing Whitethroats, thirteen singing Sedge Warblers and ten singing Reed Warblers. Raven – 14th April
This morning at Netherfield there were seven singing Willow Warblers, three singing Whitethroats, four singing Sedge Warblers and two singing Reed Warblers. A Raven was seen being mobbed by two Carrion Crows close to the railway bridge. PS.
Hobby – 8th September
This morning, during the Birdcount, two Yellow Wagtails and good numbers of Chiffchaffs and Blackcaps were recorded. A Sedge Warbler and a Reed Warbler were in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed and a Hobby was hawking dragonflies over the Deep Pit. PS.
Redstart – 19th April
This morning two Reed Warblers were singing from the Slurry Lagoon reed bed, two Whitethroats and a Lesser Whitethroat were also singing. A Common Tern was flying around the tern platforms but left after a short while. On the Causeway a female Redstart was seen catching insects from the fencing and, near the Slurry Lagoon dry end, a male Redstart was also seen. PS.
Yellow Wagtail – 28th August
This morning a Yellow Wagtail flew over the site to the south. A Sparrowhawk was seen to fly in a direct line in fast, active flight, across the Slurry Lagoon and straight into the reeds on the opposite side to emerge almost straight away with what was presumably a hapless Reed Warbler in its talons. Reed Warbler – 14th April
This morning two Reed Warblers were singing in the north-east corner of the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. There was still only one Whitethroat and Lesser Whitethroat, but a few more Swallows are in. PS.
Hobby – 17th May
This morning there were two Cuckoos around the Gravel Pits. More Reed Wablers have arrived, with numbers now topping twenty singing males, and, in the afternoon, a Hobby was seen over the Slurry Lagoon dry end. PS.
Cuckoo – 7th May
At least four Cuckoos moved through the site this morning, going north. Garden Warbler numbers have now reached 11 singing males and Reed and Sedge Warblers are present in substantial numbers now too. PS.
Shelduck – 18th April
This morning there were two Shelducks on the Wader Scrape. There were still two Wheatears on the ploughed field beyond the Wader Scrape. The Reed Warbler was still singing in the NW corner of the Deep Pit and a Common Tern was on one of the platforms in the Deep Pit. PS.
