This morning, three Oystercatchers were flying over the Slurry Lagoon, piping as they went, four Swallows and two Sand Martins were also seen. Over the Deep Pit three House Martins were seen flying east and a Willow Warbler was singing on the railway side of the Slurry Lagoon. Also heard were six Chiffchaffs, two Blackcaps and three Cetti’s Warblers. PS.
In the evening a Common Tern came in to circle the tern platforms before flying off. JMD

There were at least five Chiffchaffs singing this morning. Across the river, on the flooded field beyond the bridge, were two Shelducks and two Oystercatchers. In the Slurry Lagoon reed bed were two Water Rails and two Cetti’s Warblers were in the Deep Pit. PS.
This morning, during the Wildlife Walk, a Common Sandpiper was seen on one of the islands on the Slurry Lagoon. It was later flushed by a Heron and flew to the sloping platform in the Deep Pit. The female Pintail is still present and an Oystercatcher flew over. There were signs of an emergence of Common Blue butterflies along the Deep Pit bank. PS.
Today the first Shoveler, a male and a female, arrived back on the Slurry Lagoon. There were also five Little Grebes and four Oystercatchers flew over. SC.
This morning the Cuckoo was calling again from the ash trees beside the railway line and a Yellow Wagtail flew over the Causeway. On the Slurry Lagoon a second pair of Great Crested Grebes have produced a single chick and an Oystercatcher is sitting tight on eggs. PS.
This morning three Willow Warblers, a Whitethroat and two Sedge Warblers were singing as well as plenty of Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs and a Lesser Whitethroat was singing as it passed through. At least four Water Rails were calling from the Slurry Lagoon reedbed and two Oystercatchers flew noisily over. Butterflies seen included Brimstone, Orange-tip, Green-veined White, Peacock, Comma and Speckled Wood. PS.
This morning two Sand Martins were seen flying over the site, to the south. There were four Lesser Redpoll on the Lower Path and ten migrating Pied Wagtails were seen on the Severn/Trent fields. An Oystercatcher was on one of the tern-tables and a flock of 42 Mute Swans was grazing across the river. PS.
This morning two Oystercatchers flew over the Slurry Lagoon, calling, and a Bittern was seen in the Deep Pit. One male Stonechat was still present in front of the sub-station. Two Cetti’s Warblers were heard as well as two Water Rails. PS.
This morning a Grasshopper Warbler was reeling from shrubs beside the Large Gravel Pit. Two Oystercatchers flew over. SC.
