Goosander – 28th November

This morning a male Goosander flew SW over the Slurry Lagoon and two Treecreepers were seen on trees along the Riverside Walk. PS.

Raven – 28th November

This morning a Raven was seen flying towards the recycling plant. The Great White Egret was seen driving two Little Egrets from the Ouse Dyke so that it could pinch their fishing spot and two Snipe flew over pursued by a 1st winter male Peregrine, and managed to get away. PS.

Bearded Tit – 28th November

Early this afternoon a male Bearded Tit was seen in the Slurry Lagoon reed bed. RW.

Woodcock – 28th November

This evening, as the geese, starlings and crows went to roost a Woodcock flew past in the Deep Pit. There were two Cetti’s Warblers singing and at least six Water Rail were calling. PS.

Little Egret – 28th November

At dusk the gull roost contained about 500 birds, consisting mainly of Black-headed, Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls. there were also around 200 Teal and 70 Shoveler. Two Little Egrets and two Shelduck were also present and the Cetti’s Warbler sang briefly from the reed bed that the Starlings were roosting in. PS.

Golden Plover – 28th November

The two Little Egrets were on the Ouse Dyke again this morning and what was probably one of them was later seen in the Deep Pit. The Slurry Lagoon and Gravel Pits are mostly frozen over now but most of the Deep Pit is still clear. Most of the Coots on the Large Gravel Pit are concentrated into one small area of clear water and the Red-crested Pochard have gone. The Teal have moved to the Deep Pit and a flock of Lapwings are sitting on the ice on the Slurry Lagoon, which is completely frozen over. Eleven Golden Plover looked like they were going to join the Lapwings but eventually flew away. PS.
