This afternoon a male Mandarin was on the Trent, near the Poulter Brook, and a pair of Goosanders were nearby. There was a large aggregation of at least 500 Black-headed Gulls on the Deep Pit. JDn.

Whooper Swan – 20th March
Around 95 Whooper Swans were seen flying north, high over the lagoons, this evening. There is also still one Green Sandpiper about. RW.
Bearded Tit – 20th March
This morning a Chiffchaff was singing on the River Path and a Curlew flew over the Slurry Lagoon. At about 13.00 a female Bearded Tit was seen in the Deep Pit. PS.
Little Ringed Plover – 20th March
The Little Ringed Plover is still on the Wader Scrape, along with a Lapwing, 24 Gadwall and a male Goldeneye. Two Cetti’s Warblers were heard, one in the Haven, the other in the Deep Pit, as well as several Water Rail and there were two Snipe near the Large Gravel Pit. In an ash tree on the railway embankment there was a pre-roost flock of 57 Linnets. PS.
Red Kite – 20th March
This morning there were two male Wheatears at the top end of the Slurry Lagoon, a Sand Martin and a Chiffchaff. Two Oystercatchers flew over and there were 73 Golden Plover on the Severn Trent field. At about 12.50 a Red Kite flew over the site, heading south. Later in the day 13 Sand Martins and 6 Snipe were seen. RW.
