A male Cetti’s Warbler was heard this afternoon, singing from the reed bed in the Slurry Lagoon. Also a flock of about 60 Linnets came in to roost in the bushes in the Deep Pit. PS

Bittern – 10th February
At about 17.00 a Bittern was seen flying the length of the Deep Pit escorted by two or three Black-headed Gulls, before it crashed into the reed bed at the same point as it did two nights ago. PS.
Bittern – 8th February
At dusk the Bittern flew the length of the Deep Pit and crashed into a reed bed beside the northern end of the Causeway. Several Water Rail were heard calling. PS.
Bittern – 1st February
This morning a Bittern was standing on the ice at the eastern end of the Deep Pit. The water is partial frozen again allowing for quite good views before it crept back into the reeds and a single Shelduck was sitting on one of the Tern Platforms. JMD.
Redshank – 31st January
This morning a Redshank was seen on the river bank and four Tree Sparrows with Linnets and Reed Buntings, on the north east bank of the Deep Water Pit. PS
In the afternoon a Cetti’s Warbler was heard calling in the Deep Pit and later a Bittern came in to roost in its usual spot.
Bittern – 19th January
The Bittern was seen again this evening dropping into its normal reed bed to roost. PS.
Bittern – 17th January
A Bittern was seen again in the Deep Pit. It was giving good views, right out in the open, as did a Water Rail. Up to eight Golden-eye were also seen and eight Goosander flew over. Later a Woodcock was seen flying into the Deep Pit. PS.
There is an unconfirmed report of a Lesser Scaup being seen on the site today.
Peregrine – 15th January
A Peregrine was seen this afternoon, catching a Redwing and carrying it to a pylon to eat. There was a large flock of Teal on the Deep Pit, possibly over 400, and a flock of 73 Lapwings joined them to rest on the ice. Four Meadow Pipits and a Yellowhammer were also seen. PS.
Bittern and Little Egrets – 14th January
A Bittern was seen again in the Deep Pit (RW). It was seen a couple of times, walking on the ice and flying between reed beds. Perhaps they will stay for the winter.
Two Little Egrets were seen in the Ouse Dyke (RD).
