At mid-day today a Treecreeper and a Chiffchaff were seen along the Ouse Dyke. JMD.

Bittern – 13th January
This evening a Bittern was seen flying from the Slurry Lagoon into the Deep Pit. RW.
Blackcap – 8th January
At about mid-day a male Blackcap was seen along the Ouse Dyke. A Water Rail was also seen in the Ouse Dyke. On the Slurry Lagoon a count of over 400 Teal was made and on the Large Gravel Pit were 200 Wigeon. PS.
Jack Snipe – 3rd January
The Jack Snipe was showing well on the Wader Scrape again today. Two Ravens were also seen. BB.
Jack Snipe – 2nd January
This morning, on the Wader Scrape, there was a Jack Snipe near the water’s edge and four Common Snipe in the taller vegetation. A male and a female Stonechat were also present. PS.
Chiffchaff – 29th December
A Chiffchaff was seen feeding along the Ouse Dyke today. JMD.
Woodcock – 26th December
A Woodcock flew through the Deep Pit bushes, chased by two Magpies, well before dusk, and a Black Swan was on the Deep Pit before being chased off by resident Mutes and relocating on the Large Gravel Pit. JMD.
Stonechat – 19th December
This morning a pair of Stonechats were present on the Wader Scrape. Several Water Rail were heard calling from various reed beds and good numbers of winter thrushes were about. PS.
Brambling – 17th December
This morning a Brambling flew, calling, along the north bank of the Slurry Lagoon. Also five Water Rail and three Cetti’s Warblers were heard. PS
Little Egret – 11th December
This morning, during the monthly bird count, a flock of twelve Little Egrets flew over the reserve. There were also four Water Rail and five Cetti’s Warblers heard. PS.
