This morning, during the Monthly Birdcount, four Whooper Swans circled over the Deep Pit. They very nearly landed, but thought better of it. The Marsh Harrier was seen again, being mobbed by crows in the Deep Pit and later flying high over the Slurry Lagoon reed-bed and a Raven was also seen over the Slurry Lagoon. Over the Ecopark a Ring-necked Parakeet was seen. PS.

Woodcock – 11th December
This evening, at dusk, two Woodcocks were seen, flying out to feed. During the day a Caspian Gull was seen on the recycling plant roof and two Ravens and a Green Sandpiper were also seen. RW.
Little Egret – 11th December
This morning, during the monthly bird count, a flock of twelve Little Egrets flew over the reserve. There were also four Water Rail and five Cetti’s Warblers heard. PS.
Goosander – 11th December
This morning, during the bird count, two male Goosanders flew over the reserve and later a female landed on the Large Gravel Pit. Three Cetti’s Warblers were heard and there were three Little Egrets on the Ouse Dyke. Good numbers of winter thrushes and various ducks were also present. PS.
