Green Sandpiper – 23rd July

Two Green Sandpipers were again on the Slurry Lagoon – an adult and a juvenile – resting and feeding.  Also feeding along the Slurry edge was a Little Ringed Plover and among the gulls were at least three Yellow-legged Gulls.  A new brood of five Tuftie ducklings were the first for the year and again along the path edges to the west of the Slurry Lagoon quite a number of Long-winged Coneheads were seen although they weren’t stridulating. JMD. PS.

Starling Roost – 27th June

Somewhere in the region of 2,500 – 3,000 starlings flew in to roost at the Lagoons this evening.  It is difficult to be more accurate with numbers as birds were constantly moving and being joined by more.  A Sparrowhawk was attracted to all this activity but didn’t manage to get lucky.  At one point a huge flock flew along the Causeway settling everywhere, bushes, fences, in the grass and on the path itself – quite a sight.  Eventually they all flew into the reeds to the right of the seat to roost for the night. JMD.

Hobby – 27th April

This afternoon a Hobby sat on one of the fence posts on the east side of the Deep Pit for some time before flying low around the Deep Pit and then away over the Railway Bridge to upset all the Swallows while on the opposite side a Cuckoo was cuckooing and hopping from post to post. JMD.

Later on a Bar-tailed Godwit flew through while three Garden Warblers sang in the Deep Pit. PS.
