Description
Wingspan 30mm. The fore-wings are yellow or creamy yellow with a broad brown terminal band and a narrower band close to the body.
Habitat
Woodland, farmland and rough hedgerows. The caterpillars feed on the flowers and buds of Field Maple when small and the leaves when they are larger.
Status and distribution
Fairly common but local, mainly in the south east and East Anglia. Rarer further north. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
September to November.
