Red-thighed Macrophya
Macrophya rufipes
Description
Body length 10mm. This is a black species with a white spot on the scutellum and a white band across the abdomen near to the distal end and a white mouth. The long hind femorae and tibiae are red and the other legs paler orange or yellow.
Habitat
Woodland edge and hedgerows.
Status and distribution
The status is not well known, but it seems to be fairly widespread. Recorded once at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to July.
