Description
Over all length 10mm. An all black species apart from yellow/white markings on its legs and face.
Habitat
Woodland edge, hedgerows and scrub. The larvae feed on Elder, so the adults can be seen anywhere where Elder is present. The adults are not often seen coming to flowers.
Status and distribution
Local, but can be abundant. Mostly confined to the southern half of Britain. Uncommon in Nottinghamshire and recorded twice at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to July.
