Common Buff Snailkiller
Tetanocera ferruginea
Description
Over all length 6mm. A reddish species, with orange legs and head. The eyes are red and the thorax has darker red stripes along it.
Habitat
The edges of marshy pools and bogs where the adults are often seen on the emergent vegetation. The larvae parasitize snails.
Status and distribution
One of the commoner species, especially in the west of Britain.
Best time to see
June to September.
