Lesser Marsh Grasshopper

Chorthippus albomarginatus

Description

Over all length 13 - 23mm. Has side keels to pronotum almost parallel. Both sexes have well developed wings. The colour varies from light brown to green to pink.

Habitat

Is generally found in rank vegetation, particularly long grasses.

Status and distribution

This species has recently expanded its range from the south east to now cover most of southern Britain. It is the commonest orthopteran found on the reserve.

Best time to see

July to October.
