Common Tiger Damsel

Cylindrotoma distinctissima

Over all length 9 - 11mm. A rather delicate cranefly with a pale brown abdomen and thorax. It has a dark 'saddle' on the thorax, in front of the wings, and a dark final segment to the abdomen.

Woods and hedgerows. On the reserve it seems to prefer the more overgrown parts of the Lower Path.

Status and distribution

Well distributed through the southern half of Britain, but less common further north. Occasionally found on the reserve.

Best time to see

May to September.
