Common Tiger Damsel
Cylindrotoma distinctissima
Description
Over all length 9 - 11mm. A rather delicate cranefly with a pale brown abdomen and thorax. It has a dark 'saddle' on the thorax, in front of the wings, and a dark final segment to the abdomen.
Habitat
Woods and hedgerows. On the reserve it seems to prefer the more overgrown parts of the Lower Path.
Status and distribution
Well distributed through the southern half of Britain, but less common further north. Occasionally found on the reserve.
Best time to see
May to September.
