Description

Wingspan 29 - 36mm. The wings have a mottling of dark and light shades of orange-brown.

Habitat

Grasslands, meadows, church yards, verges. The caterpillar feeds on ruderal grasses, including cock's-foot and false brome.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in England and Wales. Less common in the north and rare in Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to August.
