Rivula sericealis

Description

Wingspan 19 - 25mm. A pale straw-coloured moth with a bluish/purple figure of eight on the fore-wing, with black centres (kidney mark) and darker brown outer edge and fringe.

Habitat

Tall, damp grassland. The caterpillar feeds on grasses.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread in southern Britain, becoming less common and local in northern Britain and tending towards the west. Common and widespread in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to July.
