Plusia festucae


Wingspan 38mm. The fore-wings are reddish brown with yellow patches and two silver/white central blotches.


Damp sites, beside ditches and rivers, marshes and woodland rides. The caterpillar feeds on some sedges, Yellow Iris, Great Bur-reed and sometimes willow and nettle.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread throughout Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

June to September.
