Apamea lithoxylaea
Description
Wingspan 40 - 50mm. Light straw with darker streaking and spots. The diagnostic marks are the small, curved, dark mark near the centre of the wing and the brown smudges going inwards from the front edge of the wing.
Habitat
Grasslands, woodland edge and hedgerows. The caterpillars feed on the flowers, seeds and stem-bases of grasses.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout most of Britain. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
June to August.
