Centre-barred Sallow

Description

Wing-span 32 to 36mm. Distinctively marked in pale umbers and browns. There is a central darker bar on the fore-wing, with the edge closest to the body being straight.

Habitat

Woodland, woodland edge and hedgerows. The caterpillar feeds on Ash.

Status and distribution

Common and widespread through most of southern Britain but getting less so further north. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.

Best time to see

August and September.
