Description
Wingspan 34 - 38mm. The fore-wings are variable, from buff to brown, with a dark central bar made up of several different bars, the central, wider one being generally paler than the others. There is also a short, dark line near the tip of the wing.
Habitat
Grassy areas, along woodland rides, hedgerows, meadows and gardens. The caterpillars feed on clovers and vetches.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread in England, Wales and lowland Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
June to August.
