Description
Wingspan 27 - 30mm. All sooty black with a thin white line around the tip of the fore-wing. Flies by day.
Habitat
Grasslands, where the larvae feed on cow parsley and pignut.
Status and distribution
Common and widespread throughout central and northern England, Wales and lowland Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
June to August.
