Description
Wingspan 24 - 30mm. The fore-wings are brown with a wavy white line across them that has a thin brown line centrally along its length.
Habitat
Woodland edge, hedgerows and grassy scrubland. The caterpillars feed on the flowers and seed heads of red campion.
Status and distribution
Common and widely distributed in England, Wales and southern Scotland. Local in northern Scotland. Common in Nottinghamshire and recorded at Netherfield Lagoons.
Best time to see
May to September in two broods.
